kürbis ensemble

About

Kürbis was formed in 2006 and focuses on radical new work for different chamber combinations of instruments and voices, encompassing experimental notations and performance concepts alongside more traditional musical paradigms. Co–directed by composers James Weeks and Claudia Molitor, Kürbis was formed to give a voice to the emerging generation while at the same time championing the works of established composers such as Christopher Fox, Christian Wolff and John Cage. Kürbis' debut concert in November 2006 focused on recent chamber music by the group's founders; this concert was repeated at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge in February. Also in February Kürbis presented the first performance of James Weeks' large-scale triptych Schilderkonst. Future plans include a portrait of Claudia Molitor, the première of a major new work from Christopher Fox, and a return visit to Kettle's Yard in 2008.
